Thames Street Living Room
We're open! Every Monday from 9am-4pm
Thames Street Living Room is a cafe style area in the old school room where you can make yourself at home and relax with others or on your own. There's tea, coffee and cake throughout the day, and free wifi. You can read a newspaper, play a board game, bring your laptop and do some work, or have a chat with friends. The entrance is via the side door (to the right of the main entrance - it is signposted each Monday).
The reason we have called it 'The Thames Street Living Room' is because we hope people from the community of Wallingford will feel that they can come and stay a while. The aim is that it will be a place where all kinds of groups and individuals will feel 'at home' in good company. We would particularly encourage you to bring along anyone you know who might be feeling a bit isolated at home for any reason.
Every Monday varies with a different mix of people and activities. Parents and toddlers pop in for coffee and play. There is always tea, coffee and home made cake - help yourself and just pay what you can. Also available are activities which you may find in any living room, such as board games, jigsaws, knitting, newspapers, colouring, as well as toys and books for young children. There is lots of space and sometimes when older children are around we get out the table tennis and table football etc in the main church room.
There is free Wi-Fi and we have a laptop which can be used in the Living Room by anyone who may not have a computer or internet access at home.
Some weeks there is a craft activity laid on, and on the first Monday of each month there is a tool cleaning session for the charity Tools with a Mission.
Most lunch times there is soup-making after which we have a shared lunch at around 12.45.
We have been running a post Alpha group on Mondays, and we offer the opportunity for a simple Bible study each week. The prayer room is also open if anyone wants to have some quiet time or would like someone to pray with them.
So pop in and have a cup of tea with us whilst you are out shopping, and bring your friends too!
A place of welcome
Since September 2019 we have become part of the Places Of Welcome network!
Originally developed in Birmingham, Places of Welcome is a growing network of local community groups providing their neighbourhoods with places where all people feel safe to belong, connect and contribute.
For more information about this nationwide initiative, see www.placesofwelcome.org.uk
Mustard Seeds is a small group that runs 10:30-11am on normally the third Monday of each month at the Living Room. Little ones and their carers are welcomed to come and join in with a Bible story and some children's songs in the adjacent room during the morning. This term Mustard Seeds will run on 16 Sept, 21 Oct, 18 Nov, and 16 Dec.
Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
