Mission and Vision

WBC Banner mission statement

Our mission statement and WBC logo came out of looking together at Jeremiah 17:7-8

7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
   It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

This town was established the way it was because of the river that supplied and defended it. Our church building is close to the beautiful Thames Path and we try to make the most of this, for instance with the Friday morning "Breathe" walks and meditations. Pastor Simon is also keen for the opportunity to baptise people in the Thames rather than our baptistry some time!

But most importantly as a church community we want to have our roots deep in "the spring of living water" which is the way Jeremiah describes the Lord - and as a result to have streams of living water flow out from us to the wider community, as Jesus promised in John 7:38.

2019 Verse for the year

We have adopted the famous "Great Commission" from Matthew 28 as our verse for this year:

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’

Through the Spring Term we will be learning about discipleship from the gospel of Luke, both in our Sunday services and life groups, with the strapline #be1make1.

How will it change your attitudes and actions if you start living in confident expectation of what Jesus can do and the firm belief that Jesus is with you?

Mission Fund Focus for 2019

This year our plan is to focus our gift days on the following 4 areas:
  1. The Persecuted Church - with a particular focus on Syria
  2. Viva (viva.org) - with a particular focus on their work in Lebanon and Syria
  3. BMS World Mission (bmsworldmission.org)
  4. The Didcot and Wallingford Area CAP Debt Centre (capuk.org)

We continue to support our individual mission partners overseas as well as A2B UK (a2balbania.org).
